The Tasmanian Senator made headlines after posting the offensive message on Facebook on Tuesday, alongside a photo of the pair with Prime Minister Tony Abbott during a visit to Gosford last month.

The post, which has since been deleted, said the pair pictured “say thank you for nothing”.
“These kind of men say it is ok to treat a veteran like a piece of shit,” she said.

“These men are out of touch.”

Vietnam Vets Central Coast sub-branch president Robert Purcell, pictured alongside Stephem Karsai, said he was deeply offended by the post.

Senator Lambie issued an apology on Thuesday, sending media a photo with the caption “Senator Lambie says ‘Sorry’ to Vietnam Vets Robert Purcell and Stephem Karsai”.
