Lambie rejects citizenship law change

The courts, and not a minister, should decide on any citizenship stripping of terror suspects, says Senator Jacqui Lambie.

Independent senator Jacqui Lambie won't be supporting proposed new laws that strip dual-national terrorism suspects of their Australian citizenship.

Senator Lambie says putting the power in the hands of the immigration minister, rather than a judge, would put the government above the law.

"A penalty as serious as citizenship stripping needs to be decided by courts," Senator Lambie said.
