Lambie seeks confidential unions report

The prime minister's department is considering a request from Jacqui Lambie to see a confidential section of the union royal commission report.

Independent senator Jacqui Lambie has asked the prime minister's office to show her and other crossbenchers a confidential section of the unions royal commission interim report.

A Senate estimates hearing has been told Tony Abbott's office has received the confidential report, which was kept secret because it deals with threats to witnesses.

Senator Lambie has asked whether she and other senators can sign a promise of confidentiality to look at the report to inform their thinking about proposed industrial laws.

Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet deputy secretary Elizabeth Kelly says she will consider the request.
