Lanka still unsettled, 5 years after war's end

Five years after the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka, the country is still far from settled.

Five years after the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka, the country has staged a victory parade which has drawn thousands of people in the southern city of Matara.

In the north of the country, security forces stopped Tamils from holding remembrance services for their war dead.

Tens of thousands of people died in the conflict between government forces and Tamil Tiger rebels and the United Nations is preparing to announce a panel of investigators for an inquiry into alleged human rights abuses by both sides in the final stages of the war.

Gordon Weiss was the UN spokesman in Sri Lanka during those final stages.

He told Greg Dyett, discrimination and violence are still a fact of life in Sri Lanka.
