Skipper Meg Lanning smashed her second consecutive century to lead Australia to a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the series-deciding third women's one-day international.

Lanning hit 10 fours on her way to 127 off 135 balls as the Southern Stars reached the White Ferns' imposing total of 5-243 with eight balls to spare at Mt Maunganui on Wednesday.

It followed the captain's impressive 114 not out which set up victory in game two on Monday to keep the series alive.

The latest win gives Australia their 14th consecutive Rose Bowl series, having held the silverware since 1999.

Lanning's departure in the 49th over allowed Alyssa Healy to hit the winning runs with a boundary the next ball.

Australia were required to recover from 2-34 in the 13th over after losing both openers cheaply, with Lanning ably supported by Alex Blackwell who made an unbeaten 51, while allrounder Ellyse Perry chipped in with 35.

Earlier, White Ferns opener Suzie Bates dominated the Southern Stars' attack to make 110 off 133 balls, including 11 fours, to help the Kiwis' to their highest total of the series.

Rene Farrell, Perry, Jess Jonassen and Megan Schutt picked up a wicket apiece for the visitors, while Sarah Coyte claimed a run out.
