Large WA bushfire now under control

A controlled burn gone wrong has now been controlled in Western Australia's southwest.

A prescribed burn that became out of control in a state forest southeast of Perth has been controlled.

The bushfire was sparked on Wednesday near Mt Cooke, 20km east-southeast of Jarrahdale, and by Thursday morning had burnt through about 2100 hectares of bushland beyond the original prescribed burn boundary.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says the fire was controlled shortly before 4pm on Thursday.

There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area.
