The last children being held in detention on Christmas Island have now been flown to the Australian mainland, as part of a deal to reintroduce temporary protection visas.

The federal government promised to remove all children from the facility by Christmas in negotiations with the Palmer United Party and other crossbenchers in the Senate.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said a total of 194 people in family groups, including 94 children, had been transferred in three charter flights over the past week.

"These families are now being accommodated at the Bladin Point facility in Darwin while arrangements continue to release them into the community," he said in a statement.
