Australia continues to make last-minute pleas to Indonesia to spare the lives of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, Prime Minister Tony Abbott says.

"This is not in the best interests of Indonesia, let alone the best interests of the young Australians concerned," he told reporters in France.

The Bali Nine ringleaders were told on Saturday they could be executed as soon as Tuesday.
