Late goal earns fifth straight draw for Wolfsburg

BERLIN (Reuters) - VfL Wolfsburg's Felix Uduokhai headed in a stoppage-time goal to earn a 1-1 draw against visitors Hoffenheim on Sunday and make it a record-equalling five draws in a row under coach Martin Schmidt.

Schmidt took over in September and has managed to stabilise their season after their bad start, the remarkable run of draws matching the league record for a new coach held by Joerg Berger, who also drew his first five games at Cologne in 1991.

The latest point kept Wolfsburg in 14th place on nine points, two above the relegation playoff spot.

Hoffenheim's Andrej Kramaric came agonisingly close with a low shot eight minutes into the second half and Wolfsburg responded with a superb volley from Uduokhai which scraped the bar.

The visitors went ahead with Kerem Demirbay converting a 73rd minute penalty but Uduokhai then rose higher than three Hoffenheim defenders to head in the equaliser.

Hertha Berlin also snatched a 1-1 draw at Freiburg thanks to Salomon Kalou's penalty, which he had to take twice, to move up to 11th place but they have now gone six matches without a win.

Cologne and Werder Bremen shared the points in their goalless relegation derby.

Borussia Dortmund saw their lead at the top of the table disappear when they wasted a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday,

Champions Bayern Munich, second on goal difference, joined them on 20 points after edging past Hamburg SV 1-0 in their third win in three matches in all competitions under new coach Jupp Heynckes.
