Latest developments in EU migrants crisis

European countries have reinstated passport controls as they struggle to contain the huge influx of migrants.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN EUROPE'S MIGRANTS CRISIS:

- Around 1000 refugees remain stranded in the northwestern Turkish city of Edirne, near the Greek border, after being barred by Turkish authorities from continuing their journey to Europe

- Germany plans to expand its naval operations against human traffickers as part of an EU mission in the Mediterranean

- Germany is boosting passport controls on part of its border with France, as it seeks to slow a record influx of migrants

- Croatia will allow free passage of migrants across its territory, Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic says as about 150 Middle Eastern refugees crossed into the country from Serbia

- German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Austrian counterpart Werner Faymann have called for a special EU summit next week to debate the crisis, with European President Donald Tusk to announce a decision on Thursday

- EU interior ministers are to meet again next Tuesday in a fresh bid to resolve the quota wrangle
