Lawrence wins canoe slalom gold

Ros Lawrence has won her fourth canoe slalom World Cup gold medal - the first in two years - in Prague.

Australian paddler Ros Lawrence has ended a two-year gold medal drought with victory in the C1 final at the canoe slalom World Cup in Prague.

Lawrence secured her fourth World Cup gold medal with a seven-second victory ahead of hometown favourite Katerina Hoskova of the Czech Republic.

Australia's world champion Jessica Fox recorded the fastest time in the final but also picked up a 50-second penalty for a missed gate and had to settle for eighth position.

Lawrence last won gold in 2012 in Cardiff, and was relieved to finally be back at the top of the podium.

"It's been two years so finally I have broken the drought," said the 25-year-old from NSW.

"It was a pretty difficult course, there are a lot of touches and a few 50's (penalties) being given out.

Lawrence's victory more than makes up for her kayak disappointment from the women's K1 the previous day, where she could only manage 43rd.
