Mr Burnside has represented numerous asylum-seekers being held at Australia's detention centre on the remote Pacific island.
As of last week, there were over 680 asylum-seekers on Nauru, all of whom Mr Burnside says are in limbo over their ongoing detention.
Mr Burnside told Darren Mara he believes the reports that only one application has been processed are accurate.
"Underneath all of this, I suspect, is a bit of influence from Australia because of our 'no advantage' principle," Mr Burnside says.
"And it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Australian authorities said to Nauru 'don't bother hurrying this along too much because we want people held as long as possible'."
