Lawyers say 'vague' Electoral Act is discriminatory

The Human Rights Law Centre is calling on the federal government to scrap laws it says prevent people with a disability from voting.

The Australian Electoral Act currently prohibits the enrolment of persons who by reason of being of unsound mind are incapable of understanding the nature and significance of enrolment and voting.

The law centre's spokeswoman Emily Howie told Hannah Sinclair the provisions are vague and discriminatory.
