Lay day called at Trestles with poor surf

The World Surf League stop at Trestles in California has been called off for the day due to a lack of waves on offer.

Australia's defending champion and world No.1 Tyler Wright will have to wait another day for redemption after surfing was called off at Trestles.

"We are seeing a decrease in the swell size, as well as inconsistency in the lineup today," Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL deputy commissioner, said. "There is not enough in the ocean to run heats, so we are calling the competition off for the day. We will come back tomorrow at 7.30 am for the next call."

Wright, who suffered a shock loss to compatriot Keely Andrew on Wednesday, will fight for survival against fellow Australian and wildcard Macy Callaghan when action resumes on Friday.

Six-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore also faces elimination against Bronte Macaulay while the first match-up is an all-Hawaiian affair between Carissa Moore and Malia Manuel.
