Sharni Layton's breakout 2015 and starring role of Australia's whitewash England tour is just the tip of the iceberg according to Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander.
Predictably, Layton was named player of the series in Australia's 3-0 series sweep which wrapped up in London on Sunday, following another comfortable victory in which their star defender excelled.
It came as no surprise to Alexander given Layton's outstanding form in the trans-Tasman netball competition, but what impressed the hard-marking coach was the way the 28-year-old had responded to her pre-series demand of making the keeper position her own in the absence of skipper Laura Geitz.
In a pointed warning to Australia's international rivals, however, Alexander predicted the best was yet to come for the NSW Swifts star.
"I think in general her consistency (in this series) was what I was after, and we got that," Alexander said.
"There's still a few technical areas where she can improve though, so when she does that she's going to be quite amazing for us."
Acting captain Clare McMeniman credited Layton with single-handedly winning the opening Test - which, with a six-goal margin, was the tightest contest of the series and set up the clean sweep.
"She was a maniac in the first game. We said that pretty much she did everything - we didn't really play that well," McMeniman said.
