A young man missing after he jumped off a headland into waters off the NSW mid-north coast during Easter has been remembered as a talented footballer with the Midas touch.

Terry Brown, from Orange, failed to resurface after jumping into the water at Boomerang Beach, near Forster, on Easter Sunday.

Police have called off the search after three days of extensive sea and land searches failed to find any sign of the 22-year-old.

Mr Brown played halfback for the Blayney Bears Rugby League Club for the past two years after he made the switch from rugby union, club secretary Lisa Oborn said.

"He attracted everyone to the club because he was so happy and so lucky," she told AAP on Wednesday.

"He's a very, very talented rugby player and he'd reached all his goals in rugby union. He knew he could achieve his goals in league as well, and this was going to be his year."

"Anything he touched turned to gold."

The club has offered counselling to all players and volunteers, who are all in a bit of shock, she said.

"We had training last night, but we didn't train. We had all the players come just to talk and support each other," said Ms Oborn.

The club isn't organising official tributes yet because friends and family hold hopes Mr Brown will be found alive.

"He's still out there. He still could walk back into our club," Ms Oborn said.

Mr Brown was camping with mates at the NSW coast for the Easter break.

Sea and land searches with PolAir, water police, SES and Surf Life Saving NSW failed to find him.

A GoFundMe page set up for Mr Brown and his family has raised more than $25,000 in less than 24 hours.
