Australian country music star Lee Kernaghan says he would like to be a coach on TV talent show The Voice but thinks he's "too ugly".

Kernaghan, who is about to embark on the final leg of an 18-month long national tour, said he was a fan of the reality show.

"I reckon those talent shows are fantastic and it would be great to do one day," he said.

"I think I'm probably a bit too ugly for The Voice, not good looking enough.

"That's why I wear a hat, it covers up a lot of mistakes."

But Kernaghan admits a mentoring role appeals to him.

"I hope that now and in years to come, I hope I can offer advice that might help a career," he said.

The singer even found the support act, The Wolfe Brothers, from another reality TV show Australia's Got Talent.

The band came second in the contest in 2012.

"When the show was over, I organised to have a jam session with the boys and turns out that they were fans of mine, grew up with my music and in fact were in the mosh pit at several of my shows in the Wrest Point Casino in their home town of Hobart," he said.

"So we started playing together and it just clicked.

"I offered them the 2013/2014 national tour and they gave up their day jobs and came out on the road with me."

As a friend of Keith Urban's, Kernaghan has already met some of The Voice Australia's coaches.

"When Keith (Urban) was finishing up on The Voice, he had a bit of a private gathering which I was invited to with my wife Robby.

"Keith and Nicole (Kidman), Delta (Goodrem), Seal and Joel Madden and Nicole (Richie) were there ... it was great to hang out with all of those people," he said.

Kernaghan has been in the industry 22 years and amassed 33 Golden Guitars from the Australian Country Music Awards.

His current tour will take him around Australia, with dates in South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia left on the schedule.
