Leighton CEO takes over as chairman

Leighton CEO Marcelino Fernandez Verdes is replacing the company's outgoing chairman Bob Humphris.

The Spanish chief executive of construction giant Leighton will also be its executive chairman.

Marcelino Fernandez Verdes takes over from outgoing chairman Bob Humphris on Wednesday.

Mr Fernandez Verdes took the top job at Leighton in March, and is also the head of Germany-based, Spanish-owned construction company Hochtief, which recently increased its control of Leighton.

Leighton has also appointed former James Hardie chief financial officer Russell Chenu and former Westfield executive Trevor Gerber as non-executive directors on its board.
