Leishman desperate for Australian major

He's an established player on the US PGA Tour but landing one of Australia's big three golf tournaments would be monumental for Marc Leishman.

Inside the world top 50. A US PGA Tour winner. And yet, there's still something missing from Marc Leishman's golf resume.

An Australian major title.

The affable 31-year-old hasn't given up hope of filling that hole at the Australian PGA Championship despite a rough start to his tournament.

Leishman had to haul himself out of bed at 3.45am in order to be at the Royal Pines course on Friday to complete his weather-affected opening round.

After finishing with a three-under-par 69, Leishman then backed it up with a one-under 71 to be four-under heading into the final two rounds.

That score is probably just enough to keep him in contention, though it would take a fair scoring effort to achieve his dream.

"Definitely would like to win one of these. It's a big goal," he said.

"Growing up I watched the guys on telly play these. To win one is a huge goal.

"This week would be a nice one to get it started."
