Leishman eyes US tour wins in 2015

Australian golfer Marc Leishman believes the lessons of a solid, but winless, 2014 will hold him in good stead for the year ahead.

Marc Leishman believes he's learnt enough lessons over the past 12 months to turn consistency into wins on the US PGA Tour.

Leishman's 2014 campaign was impressive, the 31-year-old Victorian posting seven top-10 finishes on tour and hitting a career-high world ranking of No.39 in August.

But, in a year when six of his countrymen claimed US tour titles, Leishman couldn't add to his Traveler's Championship victory in 2012 - still his sole win.

"I didn't win any, which was disappointing, but I gave myself lots of chances and that's important for your confidence," Leishman said.

"The British Open, I felt I had a good chance there. The Bridgestone, the Masters - for a while ... going into those tournaments next year, the way I played in those this year will help."

This week's Australian PGA Championship at Royal Pines will be one of Leishman's last chances to pick up a win in 2014.

Leishman skipped the Australian Masters and Australian Open in recent weeks to take a break following his last tournament in China in November.

That break and confidence from his strong form have him heading into this week's tournament feeling good.

"Sometimes when you get back after a long year in the States, when you haven't had time to recharge the batteries, you're maybe not as prepared for these tournaments as you should be," he said.

"I've prepared for this really well this year."

Leishman finished tied for 11th at last year's Australian PGA, fading on the final day as good mate Adam Scott stormed to victory.

Scott was one of the six Australians to claim US tour wins this year, and Leishman admits it left him with mixed emotions.

"It is hard to win out there. Obviously I'd love to be part of that group," he said.

"I feel like I did the right things I just didn't quite finish off tournaments how I wanted to or some guys just played better.

"That's definitely something I want to do next year, keep contending and hopefully finish off a couple of those tournaments and get into that winner's circle."
