Marc Leishman has put the disappointment of falling just short at St Andrews aside as he continues to become one of golf's elite players.
The Victorian arrived at Firestone Country Club for the World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational full of confidence as his star continues to rise, particularly in the big events.
While he ultimately fell short in the three-man playoff for the Claret Jug at the British Open, the 31-year-old has his fellow competitors taking notice.
He has also now finished in the top 10 in his last three WGC starts, including a third place finish here a year ago, and as such is being treated as one of the names to watch.
"I'm hoping I can do something similar or better this year. I played really well last year and although it was a lot softer than it will be this year it is still the same golf course and my form is good so hoping to go a couple better than last year," the world No.30 said.
"I don't play to get recognition from others but I guess it is definitely coming which means I'm doing something right, which is obviously a good thing."
Leishman admits the first few days after St Andrews were tough as he reflected on what may have been but he has since used it to fuel his fire.
Shooting 64-66 on the weekend in a British Open has him excited for the months ahead.
"There are more positives coming out of it now but obviously I am disappointed as well and for a few days it was mixed feelings," he said.
"It is not every day you get a chance to win the Open and I had that chance and didn't take it so that's disappointing but to get myself into that position after where I was through two rounds was very good.
"You have to take the positives and it was motivational for sure. To have the desire up when you have tournaments like this, the PGA and the playoffs coming up is good timing.
"I am really looking forward to the next few months to try and get some wins on the board."
