Sydney drivers have been warned of lengthy delays after a car hit a pole near an intersection in the inner-west and a multi-vehicle smash on the M4 motorway.

A 36-year-old male driver was treated by paramedics at the scene near Five Dock around 3am on Friday before being transported to RPA Hospital in a serious condition.

Lyons Road is closed in both directions between Sibbick street and Brent street due to a gas leak caused by the crash, police said.

Meanwhile the M4 motorway has re-opened at Greystanes after a serious three-vehicle accident.
