Lethal unleashes against Lions board

Leigh Matthews has upped the ante as he attempts to overthrow the Brisbane Lions board.

Leigh Matthews has upped the ante against the Brisbane Lions board by unleashing a Twitter tirade and calling for renewed opposition from club members.

A day after Matthews told AAP it was incomprehensible that four Lions directors had blocked his candidacy on a rival board ticket, he took to Twitter to call for a fresh start at the club.

Brisbane's former triple-premiership-winning coach hit out at chairman Angus Johnson and fellow directors Linda Nash, Cameron Milner and Peter McGregor for not allowing him to run for election.

Lions lawyers had advised that Matthews, a life member, was ineligible to stand at an upcoming emergency general meeting because he hasn't been a full member for the past two years.

He still hopes to join rebel directors Paul Williams and Mick Power on a new board after members vote at the EGM.

Matthews unleashed four tweets in an hour on Thursday afternoon.

"The stubbornness of Angus Johnson, Linda Nash, Cameron Milner, Peter McGregor not to let the members have there (sic) say is astounding.

"Legal shenanigans like a man floating in the middle of the ocean. You can struggle but eventually you sink and drown. Fresh start will come.

"What can supporters do? By fax, email, letter let these four individuals know your feelings but in a calm, controlled manner not abusive.

"Members must renew, these four job for life directors are NOT the club, Leppa (new coach Justin Leppitsch) and footy area desperately needs your financial support."
