Luke Lewis will extend his NRL career to an 18th season, signing a one-year deal to remain at Cronulla.
Lewis has long expressed his desire to play on in 2018 and had shown signs of his best football in recent weeks for the Sharks.
"The body feels good; I'm enjoying my footy at the moment, which is the most important thing and I enjoy the boys we've got here," Lewis said.
The 33-year-old Lewis becomes the latest premiership-winning Sharks player to commit their futures to the club.
His signature is expected to be followed by that of captain Paul Gallen's, while fellow veteran Chris Heighington is yet to decide if he wants to go around again.
However, Lewis credited the club's trainer, Andrew Gray, with ensuring he remained fit for another NRL campaign.
"Andrew Gray looks after us pretty well," Lewis said.
"He knows our bodies and knows what we have to do to get right.
"To finish my career off here would be amazing."
Lewis will play his 299th NRL game when the Sharks return to action, after their bye, against Gold Coast in round 19.
