Wade Graham has replaced Luke Lewis as Cronulla skipper for this weekend's NRL Nines in Auckland after the former representative star pulled out due to injury.

Lewis will miss the Sharks first official hitout of the year, alongside prop Sam Tagataese.

The Sharks said Lewis' withdrawal was only a precaution and that both he and Tagataese would be fit for the club's first trial match against Manly in two weeks.

Tagataese injury was listed as a groin strain, and while Cronulla only said that Lewis "has a minor injury problem", it was reported he is suffering a knee strain.

Either way Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said he wasn't concerned.

"Taga has a slight groin strain and while it settled reasonably well over the weekend, he won't be ready for the Nines either and Saul will come in," Flanagan said.

"Like Lewy, Taga should be good to go for the Manly trial as well."

Tagataese spot in Cronulla's Nines squad has been taken by newcomer Saulala Houma.
