Coalition MPs who find themselves supporting gay marriage should organise a roster to talk to the ABC, says a federal Liberal MP.

A federal Liberal backbencher has urged colleagues who have an "epiphany" about same-sex marriage to speak to the ABC.

West Australian MP Don Randall made the joke during a coalition joint party room meeting on Tuesday.

Mr Randall, an opponent of gay marriage and critic of the ABC, said supporters of the law change within the coalition should "arrange a roster for themselves" to make their announcements of support on the national broadcaster.
