Libs promise funding in key SA seat

The Liberal Opposition has pledged funding for a new public car park in a key seat at the March state election.

The South Australian Liberal opposition has pledged to spend $7.5 million on a carpark at a major bus interchange in Adelaide's north-east as the party launches its campaign for a key seat at the March state election.

Party Leader and sitting MP Vincent Tarzia say the upgrades to the Paradise interchange are desperately needed and the party's commitment is a result of Mr Tarzia's persistent lobbying.

Mr Tarzia faces an uphill battle to retain his seat of Hartley with former senator Nick Xenophon trying to take it in his bid to return to state parliament.

A recent opinion poll had Mr Xenophon in front in what will be a keen three-way contest with former MP and Labor government minister Grace Portolesi also trying to win back her old seat.

"If elected, a state Liberal government will deliver this important project for public transport users in the north- eastern suburbs who have been waiting for years for better parking infrastructure at Paradise.," Opposition Leader Steven Marshall said on Saturday.

Mr Tarzia said he was "ecstatic" to have secured the funding commitment.

"I will always be a strong voice for Hartley and will continue to fight for better infrastructure to make it easier to get to work, to school and to our fantastic local shops," he said.

But Mr Xenophon said he had already listed the project as a priority when he announced his decision to run in Hartley.

"I'll make sure it happens on time and on budget," he said.

South Australians go to the polls on March 17.
