Libs strategy team will consider WA poll

Senior Liberal Party members including Prime Minister Tony Abbott are likely to consider dates for a new WA Senate election at strategy meetings this week.

West Australians could find out within days when they'll head back to the polls as senior Liberals meet to discuss the timing of a Senate election re-run.

The High Court, sitting as the Court of Disputed Returns, last week ordered a fresh Senate election be held for WA as a result of 1370 ballots going missing between an initial count and a re-count of votes in the September federal election.

The new election has yet to be set although AAP understands April 5 is firming as likely.

It is expected to be on the agenda of a strategy meeting involving Prime Minister Tony Abbott, deputy leader Julie Bishop, Liberals federal director Brian Loughnane and WA coalition members on Monday morning in Canberra.
