Sunshine Coast Lightning have claimed their third win of the Super Netball season with a 64-56 victory over the Melbourne Vixens.
The fourth-placed Vixens went into Saturday afternoon's game at the University of Sunshine Coast Stadium desperate for a win against the reigning premiers after last week's loss to the second-placed Giants.
After a nine-point win last week against the Adelaide Thunderbirds, the Lightning were looking to sneak into the top four to prove their finals credentials.
"I think for us things are starting to gel and find a bit of flow. That's what we've been looking for most of the season," Lightning's Kelsey Browne said.
"We knew it wasn't going to come straight away. Sometimes, that stuff takes a little while but it felt awesome tonight to get that win."
The home team claimed three bonus points, missing out on one in the first quarter with the Vixens leading the home team 17-15.
Melbourne were keen to keep their lead before halftime but the Lightning were able to keep the scores tied at 30-30.
"We know when we're slipping and we know when we're not executing what we want to do," Browne said.
"We do like matching up against them (Vixens), so to some out with an eight-point win is really impressive for us," she said.
Lightning's Caitlin Bassett was deadly accurate with an impressive 51 out of 53 attempts to claim MVP for the match.
The Vixens's goalshooter Mwai Kumwenda made 31 out of 33 shots.
The Vixens' Kate Moloney said: "I think the pressure that they put on us in the end got to us and that's not good enough.
"It's something we need to work on and be able to maintain that four-quarter performance," Moloney said.
The Lightning next play the Sydney Swifts on the road and believe they are strong enough to keep their winning streak going.
