South Sydney prop Jeff Lima has escaped with just a one-match ban for the leg twist which has attracted widespread condemnation throughout the NRL fraternity.

Lima was handed a grade two dangerous contact charge after pulling and twisting at the leg of Manly back-rower Anthony Watmough in Friday night's come from behind win to the Rabbitohs.

Rather than risk a two week ban by challenging the charge, Lima and the Rabbitohs wasted little time in accepting the one-week suspension - which rules the Kiwi enforcer out of Friday night's blockbuster clash against Canterbury.

Watmough was a late inclusion for the Sea Eagles after overcoming an injury sustained when he hyper-extended his knee against the Warriors a week earlier.

Manly coach Geoff Toovey, while careful not to describe the act as intentional, did label the incident as "suspicious".

Former Brisbane, Queensland and Test firebrand Gorden Tallis was one of several ex-players calling on the NRL to come down hard on Lima in a bid to stamp out the practice.

North Queensland prop Ashton Sims was the only other player charged by the match review committee in round 23, meaning Sea Eagles back-rower Justin Horo escaped sanction for the high tackle on Greg Inglis which controversially attracted a penalty on video review.

Sims will cop a one match ban due to carry over points unless he can beat a careless high tackle charge for his hit on Gold Coast's Ryan James.
