Speaking at the U.S. Women's Open, Lincicome said she was approached recently by Barbasol tournament director Tom Murray.
"I was kind of torn," Lincicome said. "I can already hear people saying you are trying to compare yourself to the men. That's not what it is.
"I love competing with the guys. I feel like I step up my game when I play with them.
"I play a little harder. I always thought it would be cool to try."
Lincicome follows in the footsteps of female trailblazers Annika Sorenstam and Michelle Wie.
Sorenstam became the first woman in 58 years to appear in a PGA Tour event when she played the 2003 Colonial tournament in Texas, while Wie subsequently competed in eight PGA Tour events.
They missed the cut on each occasion, a fate Lincicome is not too worried about.
"I guess the worst I could do is miss the cut," she said.
The Barbasol Championship will be played at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville from July 19-22, the same dates as the British Open.
"Hopefully we play well," Lincicome said. "If I play well, great. If I don't, it's still going to be a cool week."
