Geelong's premiership skipper Cameron Ling says he'll decide in the next month whether to start an AFL coaching career in 2015.

Ling, a 246-game veteran who retired after captaining the Cats' 2011 premiership side, works for Channel Seven and Radio 3AW and is a part-time mentor at North Melbourne.

The triple-premiership onballer has been linked with an assistant's role at Melbourne under senior coach Paul Roos.

"I don't know yet," Ling told Seven's "AFL Game Day" on Sunday.

"Next month is when I'm going to (decide).

"I've already been doing a little bit, having a few conversations about my future."

Essendon great Matthew Lloyd said last month he felt it was time for the highly respected Ling to enter join the coaching ranks.
