Workers at a Melbourne business got a shock when security footage revealed a man dressed in a lion suit and his Uber-labelled accomplice had committed a "random" $15,000 burglary.

The mangy onesie-wearing lion man and associate, wearing a black jacket with the rideshare service's name printed on the back, ransacked the Collingwood business about 3.10am on Sunday.

The Gore Street building, housing global recruitment agency Anzuk Education, became a target while undergoing renovations.

"A garage roller door appears to have been left open and they've gained entry through there," Detective Senior Constable Rachael Knight told reporters on Friday.

Police released images on Friday of the bizarrely-dressed burglars, who are believed to have been returning home from a costume party.

"I believe this was a random opportunity and they've just come across an open garage, (they've) been through and been successful in stealing items," Const Knight said.

The duo stole $15,000 worth of goods including an Apple iPhone 8, four Microsoft Surface Pro computers, a GHD hair straightener, a Canon camera and charity chocolates.

"(They) were for a charity called Live for Lily, (who) was a young girl that's passed away from cancer," Const Knight said.

Workers didn't discover the cat burglar and his mate had been roaming the office until they returned.

"They've walked in on Monday morning, looked at the footage and discovered a lion," the detective said.
