Lit firecrackers engulf NSW home in flames

Police say that the blaze which destroyed a NSW north coast home on Saturday morning was started by people throwing lit firecrackers.

Several people on the NSW north coast have been seen throwing lit firecrackers into a house that ultimately burned down, local police say.

The owner of the Crescent Head property awoke on Saturday morning to find the front of his home in flames after earlier hearing fireworks and smelling gunpowder.

He escaped uninjured but the house was destroyed by fire.

Police said on Saturday that witnesses saw several people throwing lit firecrackers through the Baker Drive house's front window before the blaze.

Their identities remain unknown.
