Live baiting charges against Vic track rep

Victorian greyhound racing officials have charged the owner and his assistant manager of a Tooradin training facility over live baiting.

The owner of a Victorian track where live animals were allegedly used to train greyhounds has been charged by racing authorities.

Tooradin Trial Track manager and proprietor Stuart Mills and assistant manager Lawrence Cunningham have been charged with 64 offences under racing rules over their alleged involvement in live baiting at the track, Greyhound Racing Victoria said on Friday.

So far, 11 people allegedly involved in live baiting activities at the facility have been charged by GRV stewards with a further six still under investigation.

GRV chairman Ray Gunston said the charges were among the most serious someone could be confronted with in greyhound racing.

The latest cases will be determined by the independent Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board, with a directions hearing to be held on July 20.

An investigation by Victorian racing integrity commissioner Sal Perna found no direct evidence of live baiting but in June said overwhelming circumstantial evidence indicated it had been an ongoing practice used at various stages in greyhound racing.
