Former Liverpool player Gary McAllister says the Premier League side’s popularity in Australia is flabbergasting.

The Reds will touch down in Australia tomorrow morning, eight hours before they face A-League champions Sydney FC.

More than 70,000 fans are expected to attend the match at Sydney’s Olympic Stadium.

“I think Liverpool have got a real stranglehold here in Australia,” McAllister said.

“The love for club, you can feel the passion so it’s great that the team’s coming over to see the fans in Australia.”

Manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to field a strong squad despite Liverpool playing its final match of the Premier League season on Sunday night.

Retired club legends Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Steve McManaman are also expected to play.
