Lives under threat from fires in Perth

Several fires are threatening lives and homes in a suburb south of Perth where an emergency warning has been issued.

Lives and homes are under threat from fires burning in Perth's south.

An emergency warning is in place for residents in the eastern part of Baldvis because of a number of fires burning around the intersection of Karnup and Baldvis roads.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says embers are sparking spot fires ahead of the main front which is moving in a north easterly direction.

Parts of the fire have been controlled but not contained.

Those leaving the area are urged to do so in a northerly or westerly direction.

A watch and act warning is in place for residents bound by Baldvis Road, River Road, Serpentine Road, Wilkinson Road and Mundijong Road.

"There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching the area and conditions are changing," DFES says.

"You need to leave or get ready to actively defend."

Smoke is visible across the metropolitan area because of fires in the Baldvis area, so DFES has asked that people only call triple zero to report new fires.

Meanwhile, a fire at Northcliffe has been contained but is not yet under control.

Fires in the Lower Hotham area and at Clackline in the Northam Shire have been contained and controlled.

A severe fire danger day has been forecast in parts of the Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla, Interior and Central West regions on Wednesday.
