LNP election party a slow starter

The Liberal National Party election night function has made a slow start and may not take off given recent exit polling.

Concerned Liberal National Party supporters are slowly starting to dribble into their Queensland election night party.

The press pack waiting outside the function at Southbank on Saturday are currently outnumbering the party-goers.

A heavy afternoon thunderstorm may have slowed their arrival, or perhaps recent exit polling has dampened their spirits.

The Nine Network's Galaxy exit polls of 17 electorates is showing a swing against the LNP of 16.8 per cent, which would deliver Labor government in its own right.

LNP minders have told waiting journalists, photographers and camera operators that they won't be allowed into the function until about half an hour before Premier Campbell Newman speaks.

But that could be much later on Saturday night, with the count in his seat of Ashgrove and across the state looking like they will both be extremely close.
