LNP strengthens in latest poll

The latest opinion poll suggests the Liberal National Party is on track for electoral victory on January 31.

The Liberal National Party's re-election chances are strengthening, according to the latest opinion poll.

The ReachTEL poll suggests the party's primary vote has lifted to 42 per cent compared to Labor's 36.7 per cent share.

The Greens and the Palmer United Party trail at 8.4 per cent and 5.2 per cent respectively.

The poll, commissioned by Seven News, surveyed 1635 Queenslanders on Tuesday night.

The LNP also leads Labor on a two-party preferred basis, 52 per cent to 48 per cent.

Both parties had been neck-and-neck a fortnight earlier by the same measure.

Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of those surveyed said they expected the Newman government to come out on top on January 31, irrespective of their personal voting intentions.

But it's not all good news for Mr Newman.

Speaker Fiona Simpson has emerged as the most popular LNP member to replace the premier should he lose his seat of Ashgrove.
