Local Fox leads WA Open

The WA Open is shaping as a local showdown with Daniel Fox leading at nine-under and Jason Scrivener and Michael Sim tied a shot further back.

Local Daniel Fox holds a one shot advantage heading into the final round of the WA Open after firing a three-under 69 at Royal Fremantle Golf Club.

The tournament is shaping as a West Australian showdown with Jason Scrivener and Michael Sim tied second at 8-under the card after third rounds of two-under 70 and even-par 72 respectively.

Sitting two shots further back are the rising stars of WA golf, amateurs Min Woo Lee and Curtis Luck.

Playing his home course, Lee enjoyed plenty of local support on Saturday in firing a three-under 69.

Luck was playing in the final group and managed to get around the layout in tricky conditions at even par.

They will be joined in the penultimate group by Victorian Daniel Valente who is six-under after three rounds.

"I got off to a terrific start," Fox said of his day.

"The front nine is a lot more sheltered so I feel a lot more comfortable on that side. There is a lot more wedges and I had four birdies and just the one bogey.

"I just felt really comfortable all day with the swing, then got to the back nine.

"I had a couple of chances coming in and I birdied the last so I was very pleased," he added.

Matt Millar, who has already recorded six top-10 finishes this year including a win, is outright 7th on five-under after a two-under 70.

Rounding out the top-10 on four-under are Aaron Pike, Mark Brown, Anthony Houston, Mitchell A. Brown and Stephen Dartnall.
