Logan residents unhappy with plan to relocate locals

Residents of Logan, south of Brisbane, are unhappy with the Queensland government’s plan to relocate some residents to other parts of the state.

The fast-growing city is a multicultural melting pot, where many new Australians are migrating to.

In 2012, Aboriginal and Pacific Island residents were involved in a street brawl which resulted from a family feud.

Now the Queensland government's plan to move people out of the densely populated south east of Queensland and into regional areas has been met with anger.

New Zealand-born Logan resident Perry Rawiri said the government should not be considering relocation.

"We've decided to do our best to try and cooperate with one another but, like everything, there's problems," he said.

"I think Logan tries to do its best to work together."

Queensland Aboriginal Affairs minister Glen Elmes said relocation was part of the government’s long-term plan.

He said it aimed "to look at ways we can take people living in Logan and give them opportunities and jobs in central Queensland where they can start a new life."
