Lorde's handwritten lyrics fail to sell

Handwritten lyrics of Lorde's Grammy Award winning song Royals haven't sold at a Trade Me auction after the reserve price wasn't met.

Lorde's handwritten Royals lyrics haven't sold after no one was willing to meet the Trade Me auction reserve price.

The 17-year-old New Zealand singer offered up a framed lyric sheet of her hit song - penned and signed by her, along with producer Joel Little - on Trade Me to raise money for the Play It Strange Trust.

But though one keen fan bid $NZ4190 ($A3900) and the listing attracted over 44,000 views, the reserve wasn't met when the auction closed on Monday night.

Bids on the listing reached more than $NZ3000 in a few hours of it going live almost two weeks ago.

The listing also attracted some negative feedback, with some Trade Me users upset that what was up for sale wasn't Lorde's original version of the lyrics.

Lorde has won two Grammy Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, a Brit and four New Zealand Music Awards.

Play It Strange is a charitable trust that runs programs on songwriting, performance and recording for Kiwi youth.
