V8 Supercars legend Craig Lowndes says the motorsport championship's calendar needs a review after being left in limbo for over a month.
This weekend's Perth Supersprint round at Barbagallo Raceway is the first event since the Tasmania stop from March 27 to 29.
Holden ace Lowndes has joined a chorus of drivers speaking out against the mixed scheduling, saying it kills any momentum the sport is generating.
"I'm sure 90 per cent of the people, probably 99 per cent, would agree that it's too long," the three-time V8 Supercars champion told AAP.
"You try and build that momentum at the start of a season, get good performances, we got that in Tasmania.
"It's sort of almost killed that momentum. Such a long break, it's almost starting afresh again.
"Really it's something that the category may look at next year and I know it's a talking point, just how sporadic we are with weekends.
"It's something that, as drivers, we'd like to be more consistent and driving more regularly."
Lowndes has found support from Ford rivals Prodrive Racing, with their team principal Tim Edwards also criticising the break.
"The month long gap between races has been very long," Edwards said.
"The whole team, especially the drivers are itching to get back to it.
"The plus side of the break has been that we have been able to work on a few things and give the crew a bit of a break."
The Perth Supersprint begins on Friday with two one-hour long practice sessions before a pair of 25-lap races on Saturday and an 83-lap race on Sunday.
