Luke Lewis has set his sights on replicating the feats of good mate Michael Ennis by going out an NRL premiership winner.
In his final home game before hanging up his boots, the Cronulla great farewelled Southern Cross Group Stadium with a 38-12 victory over Newcastle on Sunday.
After three wins on the trot, and the competition changing by the week, the Sharks look like the real deal.
And the desire to send out Lewis a title winner could be the added motivation the side needs.
In 2016, many of the squad were fuelled by the desire to win for Ennis in his final year, with the club going on to break their premiership drought.
Lewis said he wanted to join the likes of Ennis, Shane Webcke, Mal Meninga and Steve Menzies by bowing out with a grand final victory.
"It's a great memory and something I'll remember for a long time," Lewis said after being given a guard of honour by his teammates onto the field.
"To be honest, I'm glad it's over now and we can home in on the next couple of weeks and stake our claims in this premiership."
Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen lured Lewis to the club in 2013 and it proved a turning point in its history.
Since then, he's been one of their most consistent servants.
He took home the Clive Churchill Medal following their grand final win over Melbourne and has racked up 320 games during a storied 18-year career.
"To be honest, the whole week has been pretty crazy," Lewis said.
"It's actually quite draining. I'll probably look back in a couple of weeks and really enjoy the moment then. It's a bit of a blur at the moment."
