Nathan Lyon has confirmed Moeen Ali's status as one of cricket's greatest bunnies, capturing his wicket for a record-equalling seventh time in nine innings this summer.

Lyon trapped Ali lbw for 13 midway through the final morning of the series on Monday, equalling the mark for the most dismissals of a batsman by one bowler in a series.

On a horror tour for the English spinner, Ali only survived his opposite number in the first innings in Sydney and first dig in Adelaide, the latter of which he wasout for a second-ball duck and did not face Lyon.

England did not bat in the second innings in Melbourne.

Monday's departure also marked the fourth time he had been given out lbw against the offspinner, sinking his series average with the bat to 19.88.

Against Lyon, the allrounders' average is an even lower mark of 85 runs at 12.14.

The seven dismissals equal Glenn McGrath's haul against Michael Atherton in the 1997 Ashes and Geoff Lawson's dominance of David Gower in 1989.

Other bowlers to claim the same batsman seven times in a series are Australian spinner Clarrie Grimmett over South African Jack Siddle in 1935-36 and England's Brian Statham of South African Trevor Goddard in 1960.
