Former NSW Labor minister Ian Macdonald and ex-union official John Maitland will face court in April after their misconduct case was mentioned in a Sydney court.

Macdonald is accused of misconduct in public office over his handling of a lucrative mining license at Doyles Creek in the Hunter Valley.

Maitland is alleged to have also been involved in the project.

Neither man appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday.

The matter will return to court on April 16.

The pair were last year forced to hand in their passports and agree not to talk to witnesses as part of their bail conditions.
