Magpies' Browne to miss Super netball

Collingwood co-captain Madi Browne will miss the entire Super Netball season after undergoing knee surgery.

Collingwood co-captain Madi Browne is out for the remainder of the Super Netball season after undergoing knee surgery on Thursday.

The former Australian mid-courter has been placed on the long-term injury list following surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.

Browne suffered the injury in a pre-season game last month although it initially wasn't thought to be serious.

Magpies coach Rob Wright said it was a blow to the team, who had opened the season with a win last Saturday.

"We're really disappointed for Madi that she'll spend an extended period of time out of the game," Wright said.

"She has had such an impressive pre-season and had been outstanding on court and she's also a fantastic leader of our team."

Browne will remain involved with the Mapies in an off-field role.

The 31-year-old called time on her representative career last year after 61 Tests to focus on the Magpies.

She was set to play with her younger sister Kelsey, who had made the off-season switch from champions Sunshine Coast.

Training partner Kelsie Rainbow will continue to act as Browne's replacement.
