Major shift in Japanese defence policy

Japan has signalled the biggest shift in its defence stance since WWII.

Japan's decision to increase the use of its military is being praised by its allies - but increasing tensions with China.

The cabinet has formally endorsed a reinterpretation of a constitutional clause banning the use of armed force except in very narrowly-defined circumstances

The move signals the biggest shift in Japan's defence stance since the Second World War.
