Malaysian fan's Everton heartache

Malaysian fan Everton Ric Wee made an 11,000km journey to watch his team play for the first time only to find the game postponed due to stormy weather.

A Malaysian Everton fan who had made an 11,000km journey to England to watch his team play for the first time had a bittersweet trip as the Premier League fixture was postponed due to stormy weather.

Ric Wee, a life-long supporter of the Liverpool-based club, was already inside Everton's Goodison Park stadium for Wednesday's game against Crystal Palace when he heard the agonising news that the match was to be called off with just 35 minutes until kick off.

The game was postponed on police advice because of damage to nearby buildings caused by the 160 km/h storms that lashed the United Kingdom on Wednesday.

Wee had posted a picture of himself inside the ground on Twitter, with the message: "Finally, 30 years since supporting @Everton, will b watching EFC "live" for 1st time".

But after being told the news, he wrote: "Sadly @Everton v Palace match called off due to bad weather. Dream to watch EFC play will continue to be on hold."

But the frustrating experience did have a happy ending for Wee as Everton officials spotted his messages on Twitter and invited him into the dressing room to meet Toffees manager Roberto Martinez and the players he has been watching on television from the other side of the world.
