Former Liberal prime minister Malcolm Fraser is standing up for a Greens senator in the federal election.
It's the senator, Sarah Hanson-Young, not the Greens party, and Mr Fraser did depart from the Liberal Party back in 2009.
But it's still an unusual step.
Mr Fraser will campaign with her at a public forum in Adelaide on Saturday, along with a refugee and refugee advocate.
He talked with Ron Sutton about why he decided to do it.
